This adorable kitten and his littermates (Abby, Brandon, Chloe, Nicki, and Maddie) are a very special litter available for adoption at Safe Haven.  Their mother tested positive for FIV, Feline Immunodeficiancy Virus that can be spread to other cats typically from one adult to another through deep bite wounds inflicted during a fight.  FIV cats can go on to live long, normal, healthy lives, but eventually their immune system will likely be weakened and they may not be able to recover from a secondary infection. 

Luckily for these six cute kittens, FIV is rarely passed from a mother cat to her kittens, and they were weaned from their mother as soon as they were old enough - so it is quite unlikely that they will also be FIV positive.  However in order to be certain, the kittens will need a blood test run once they reach 4 months old.  If this initial test is positive, another test will need to be run at 6 months old because it is possible the first test is just picking up antibodies passed on from the mom, and it isn't a true FIV result.  This testing can be done post adoption at Safe Haven at no cost to the adopters, because our goal is to get these cuties into their forever homes ASAP!  Unfortunately these kittens keep getting passed over because of the rare chance that they would have contracted FIV from their mom ....... so we are looking for adopters with a huge heart that truly love what animal rescue is all about and want to adopt a kitten that truly needs them - could that be you?
