Barnabus is our new "social butterfly" at Safe Haven! He is estimated to be around 10 months old and a Shepherd mix with some sort of Hound - and several volunteers wonder if it may be "Greyhound" because Barnabus is a tall, lanky pup with an incredibly long tail!
Barnabus was a stray from a city pound in Missouri - and after his stray hold was up, so was his time to be held safely there, so Safe Haven was contacted and asked to save his life. He is now neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, Heartworm tested negative, and dewormed. Barnabus came in with a previous injury to his front left leg, it was a large firm bump with a gash in the middle of the "lump". During his neuter surgery on October 28th, the wound was also examined. The veterinarian removed the lump and found it to be just inflammed tissue from the wound being untreated for so long. It will likely take 2 weeks for the incinsion to heal, so we have Barnabus available for adoption on November 14th.
A new forever home for Barnabus will be an active family that can help him mature and grow into a great companion family pet. He seems to keep his kennel clean, so we assume he would be easy to complete housetraining - and while he does know "sit" - he will benefit from a family that can teach him general dog obedience using positive reinforcement methods. Barnabus seems to love everyone he meets, and most of the dogs at Safe Haven - but we will need to do a meet-n-greet with any potential families including introducing their dog(s) to each Barnabus.
