Description:
Max came to us from Pennsylvania when his family felt they just could not continue caring for him at a time we had a transport scheduled from the area that he could hitch a ride on. All the members of the relay team that brought him to Iowa were so impressed with what a good dog he is and how well he handles what might have been a stressful time for him. He does have a history of having skin issues due to allergies. When examined by our vet a few days after arriving she gave him another injection of cytopoint, which he had not had since early January. Typically that injection will remain effective from 4 to 8 weeks. He seems to be doing quite well currently without any allergic flare up.
However, in his best interest we have made an appointment with an allergy specialist for her next availability in April since she is available to us on a such limited basis. We have observed that allergic flare-ups may or may not be seasonal in dogs just as in humans and to really get to the bottom (and cause) of the flare up is the only way to permanently treat the condition. We are feeding him a food that has been recommended for other dogs with allergies as well.
