UPDATE 01/03/2018:  Bobby Bones was adopted a month ago and went to live with a wonderful young family - but unfortunately it just wasn't the best fit for Bobby Bones ( now also known as Hank!) and he is now back at Safe Haven and is available for adoption.  During this past month we learned a lot about Bobby Bones and now feel like we know more about what type of home and family would best suit him.  While he did get along with his new canine brother, it became apparent that he may do best as an only dog in the home, or if he does have another dog in the home, the dog will need to be another big strong dog that wants to play and play.  It seems that Bobby Bones may not be able to read all the social cues necessary to know when his playmates are done playing.  Bobby Bones is a big boy and still has a lot of "puppy" left in him.

We have also now learned that Bobby Bones is 100% house-trained and goes to the door when he needs to go outside.  His family loved him dearly and report that " he is a wonderful dog and has a heart of gold!  He LOVES all people and accepts hugs, ear scratches, praise, belly rubs and kind words from everyone!"  They say he is happiest when around people, though young kids and elderly will need to be aware that he accidentally may be bump or whack them hard with his strong tail.   They feel his best person or family would be active, strong, and give him lots of love.  Bobby Bones loves to go on walks and explore the world around him - and he has a very nice red harness that he wears when being walked, but he still does love to pull on that leash to get to whatever his heart desires....so some continued leash training will be needed to make walks a little more enjoyable for everyone involved :)  The biggest issues tends to be that Bobby Bones is "reactive" to every dog he sees - so as he begins to bark/bay and jump and pull towards other dogs.  So a safe place to run and play in a fenced in yard, away from other dogs may be the safest play to run and play with this big fella.  His first family thinks he seems to genuinely like other dogs, but his size and puppy behavior makes it hard for him to socialize.  They also report that he is "sensitive, quick to learn, loves to play and go for car rides, is not possessive of food or toys, and likes to take naps!  He gets loves to play tug, and will fetch until he collapses!  He also loves playing in the snow, and will settle down nicely at the end of a day with a nylabone.  He never shredded or ate anything, but will steal a sock and saunter around with it in his mouth to get your attention" :)

As incredibly difficult as it was for this family to bring him back to the shelter, they took incredible care of him, and loved him enough to know that there is a better fit for him out there somewhere - where he can hopefully have a nice fenced in yard to run and explore in, and perhaps a home with no other dogs so he can soak up all the attention he desires for himself!  They also donated some toys and supplies ( including his 6 month supply of Flea/Tick preventative and Heartworm medication) to go along with him to his new home!

November 2017 - Bobby Bones is such a handsome fellow!  He is a total charmer and loves to be petted; is a begger for attention; and keeps his kennel clean overnight.  Bobby Bones is very strong and built a little longer in body and legs than you usually think of a blood hound.

He was a relinquishment to us after having been passed around a bit.   Not everyone is equipped to either handle or feed a dog this size with this much intelligence and youthful energy, quite truthfully.  He is an escape artist, if not managed properly.

We are totally smitten by his personality and he has swept us off our paws.....we just cannot say enough about how sweet and charming he is with such a beautiful face.
