Lady was picked up as a stray by the Iowa County Sheriff's Deputies and brought to Safe Haven on July 4. Not a very nice celebration for her to end up in a kennel on a holiday! No one came to claim her, so we are looking for a forever home for her. She is very sweet and lovable and would make someone a wonderful companion!
Our standard heartworm test has revealed that Lady has heartworm, but the good news is it is not very advanced. We feel that she will have a full recovery after treatment.
Update: The only part of the treatment left at this time (11/1/15) is to keep her relatively quiet along with some Prednisone for a couple of weeks (No long walks or rough-housing.) and then to retest her to check for any trace of the immature heartworms left in the bloodstream. Just as we expected she has come through the treatments like a champ. She is such a loving dog that we have all grown quite fond of her; but we have to face facts that she would probably rather have her own family. However, we will all miss the sweet girl when she does find her perfect home.
