Description:
Larry came to Safe Haven as a stray through the Iowa County pound.  A wonderful lady saw Larry on the side of the road east of East Amana, and when she stopped to check on him Larry jumped right in and started giving her kisses!  When Larry made it to the Safe Haven we noticed that he had recently been neutered and in fact still had the surgery stitches, so we were hopeful that a wonderful family may be looking for him.  However after waiting 10 days, Larry was not claimed by a family, so he is now up for adoption - and check out that smile!!

He is a very active boy that has a lot of love to offer, and loves going for a walk.  Larry is a little tough to walk because he has boundless energy, so the volunteers at Safe Haven are working on leash manners with him.  We have noticed that Larry does prefer our women volunteers, but he has recently been enjoying a home visit with one of our male volunteers.  Because of his boundless energy, he might be too much for a home with small children.

Here is what his foster dad has to say about Larry's visit:

I also just wanted to give you a quick update on how he's doing as a house dog.
Overall, he is doing awesome!  He is very happy to be in a home.  When I get home and let him out of the kennel, he goes crazy and is super high energy, the same as when I've seen him get let out of his kennel at the shelter, but fairly quickly, he calms down and listens and behaves himself.  He has proven to be very well house-trained, and he is an absolute lover! He loves to snuggle close and roll over for belly rubs.  He is almost too needy for attention, but if you ask him to go away or stay back, he does.  I have had numerous guests in my house who come to meet him, and they all fall in love with him instantly.  Unfortunately, no one who has been in a position to potentially adopt has met him yet, but I do have a few people who are interested in meeting him.  He loves to play with his toys and wants to play fetch or tug of war whenever one of his toys gets touched.  I was able to give him a bath, and he stood perfectly still for me.  I took him to a dog park last week, and since there were no other dogs there, I let him run around.  He was kind of distracted being off the leash, and I couldn't get him to play fetch with me there, but he did come back to me anytime I called him.  I think he would have liked it better if it wasn't all hard snow and ice.  He really wants to sleep in the bed with me, but will stay down if I tell him to (but I have spoiled him most nights).  He likes to jump up on people for attention, but I've tried not to spoil him too much on this.  He stays down when you tell him to, in fact he is very good with sit, lay, and stay.  He'll even go right in his kennel if I use a stern voice or offer a treat.  I have only heard him bark when someone knocks at my door.  Sometimes he play growls during tug of war or keep-away, but not in any aggressive way.  If he gets too riled up while playing without toys, he can get just a little mouthy, but a verbal reminder, and he calms right down.  I had him meet my friend's big boxer, and he was excited, but behaved like a gentleman.  A couple days ago, the neighbor's boxer Stella got out while we were on our walk and came at him full speed, but again he was just excited and was well-behaved.  If my parents were o.k. with another dog in the house, I'd be completely comfortable with him meeting Nash.  If there was any way that I could full on adopt a dog right now, I would be thrilled to have Larry.  I think anyone looking for a dog his size with a lot of energy would love Larry once they get to see what he is really like.
