Sweet Ali is not at our shelter, but with a wonderful family that has been caring for her for about a year now. Ali was found dumped in a ditch locked inside a crate in bad shape. She had clearly been abused. The family caring for her brought her back to health and have invested a lot of time and love into this girl besides. Unfortunately, their other rescue dog doesn't really appreciate Ali anymore now that she is in good health and more confident, and starting to be more dominate around the home. The family has broken up a few fights. They've consulted with some professionals and tried some different techniques, but they have come to the sad conclusion that their own dog would probably be much happier if Ali were to find another loving family.
Ali has so many great qualities!  She seems to love all people, and is great with her families young children. She's a BIG snuggler! Once she's in bed for the night, she often doesn't move - even for you! She's a dreamer and sometimes makes funny noises in her sleep. She still plays like a puppy and is a typical goofy hound.

Ali is house and crate trained. She rings a bell that hangs from the door knob to let her family know she needs to go outside. If she isn't heard right away, she will ring it again. To be let back in, she will give out one bark. If she isn't heard, she'll bark once more a few minutes later. Ali goes to her kennel when needed by saying "kennel up" and is always rewarded with a small treat. Ali likes her kennel. During family gatherings, she is in her crate, usually sleeping through the chaos! She loves toys, and often carries around a blanket or stuffed animal. She will lay down with it and hold it in her mouth. Ali is great on car rides. She knows basic commands and takes treats very gently.

Ali actually really enjoys playing and wrestling around with other dogs. It seems to be more the other dog in her household that is not appreciating her, and that is where the issues are stemming from, more so than with Ali. So, she may enjoy going to a family with another playful dog who would like a companion.
Since Ali is a hound mix and has some prey drive, she often has her nose to the ground when outside, so a fenced in yard is very strongly preferred. Recalling her back to you sometimes takes squatting down low and being SUPER happy and excited:)!
Although Ali is smaller, she has a deep hound bark and will alert to visitors.
Ali does sometimes jump up on visitors. Shrugging her off and telling her no is usually enough of a correction. Before her current family, Ali did not know that people could be nice to her, so she MUST have a family that uses positive reinforcement training only please. Food is the key to her heart!

If interested in Ali, please fill out our application. If it appears you might have the right home to offer Ali, we will put you in touch with her family. They will ultimately have the final decision about where Ali is adopted to. They are very attached to this sweet girl and only want what is best for her.
