Super cute puppy that everyone wants to hold. Found as a stray by people horseback riding.
His name is Barney because the deputy who brought him in told us Barney was riding shotgun and was jumping around on all the buttons and knobs and acutally turned on the siren. He was then placed on the deputy's lap and promptly fell asleep. So we believe he is aptly named after Deputy Barney Fife of the television show Mayberry RFD. (For those of you old enough to remember.) He is a feisty, active, playful little fella who would probably do best with a family with a fenced in yard (he does seem to be a beagle mix after all, and beagles tend to want to follow their noses!).
Barney recieved his first set of puppy shots on July 22nd, and will be ready to go to his forever home on Monday, July 28th. Adoptive owners will be required to finish the remainder of the puppy shots as well as the rabies shot when Barney is old enough. Since Barney is too young to be neutered, his adoptive family will be required to provide Safe Haven proof of this procedure being done by the time he is 6 months old.
While Barney is incredibly cute, along with that comes a lot of responsibility and work. He will need to be housetrained, and cannot be left alone all day in a kennel, so this will be a work in progress for his new family over the next several months. The family must have a plan in place for potty training if they are gone for extended hours daily. Please be ready for the time and responsibilities of owning and caring for a puppy if you are considering applying for Barney.
