Have you ever seen a spotted pitbull? Ralph is just that, as well as having an adorable brown patch around his eye – a little reminiscent of the Little Rascal’s pup! Ralph is living the good life in a foster home in Cedar Rapids where he spends much of his day lounging on his foster mom's bed. In his foster home, he's mostly very laid back, and loves getting treats, hugs, belly rubs, and just loves to follow people around. He knows sit, shake, lay down, kiss, and "hug". He is a guy that loves to play with his rope toys! Speaking of toys, Ralph loves to “kill” any toy with a squeaker in it to find the squeaker, so a potential adopter would want to watch that closely to ensure he doesn’t inhale the squeaker. He is not picky about treats at all, but his favorite definitely have to be "Healthy Edibles" which keep him busy for a while, while providing a tasty treat. In his foster home, Ralph lives with others dogs, cats, rats, and a bird. He seems to do well with any type of dog, but tends to favor the smaller ones for companionship. He loves any chance to play he gets, with any dog, but doesn't always know when it's time to stop (although he can tell others to stop), so he'll need some help with that. He regularly plays with puppies as well. Ralph has also proven to be a cat friendly dog. He loves being around them and giving them kisses, even the ones that aren't so dog friendly! Ralph does ok with the pet rats in his home, but he may be just a little TOO interested in them, so they should not run free with him:) He shows interest in the bird in his home but has not jumped up on the cage. Moving on to other things Ralph is EXCELLENT with! Surprisingly he is amazing with both horses and cows too! He goes right up to greet them, and touch noses. He's been around a one year old child lately, and besides getting a little too excited with the kissing at some points, he did not jump up on them, just followed them around. He seems to be house trained (not a single accident!) and kennel trained (although you have to convince him to get in, which he turns into a game). He absolutely loves to sleep with his foster mom, and usually always is with one of the people in his home. He loves taking his baths, as well as getting his ears cleaned.

Now that we’ve told you all this great stuff about Ralph, we’ll share the things he still needs to work on – because he’s not perfect, no one is! Ralph does best walking with a no pull harness. If something excites Ralph during a walk, you are going to know it! Also, Ralph can be “mouthy” sometimes – very puppy like! And, while Ralph did very well not jumping up on that one year old, if he’s excited, he’s been known to jump up on older children and adults. He’s got a lot of energy and excitement that he needs a regular outlet for, and does best with an experienced person/person who is willing and able to continue to provide him with positive training to help him become that A+ canine citizen that we know he can be!
