Safe Haven of Iowa County

Sammie is an absolutely adorable little papillion that was purchased from a pet store as a puppy. She has been raised around another small dog and a large dog, and several cats. She was not raised in a home with children but has been exposed to them on a regular basis and does well with them. She can be very high energy at times, she really loves to fetch toys and race around, but she is also a cuddlebug. She enjoys going for car rides. She can be a little growly when first introduced to some strange dogs (but not most) but quickly comes around.

Sammie's one drawback is that she has been difficult to housetrain. She was raised on a farm where the dogs are let out to go potty and come back in.  The trouble is, Sammie seems to enjoy playing so much when she's outside that she doesn't think to do her business out there, and then sometimes does it when she comes in, and not always on the puppy pads that are available for that purpose. Sammie would benefit from a family that was willing/able to put her on a set schedule and take her for regular leashed walks. This way, she can be walked until she has done her business and immediately praised/rewarded for doing so, and then she should be monitored closely when in the home. She is crate trained, and if unable to be supervised, she should be in her crate, though not left for many hours at a time.
