Other Pictures of Tiger (click to see larger version):Tiger came to Safe Haven with 4 other Shih Tzu's from a breeder that is retiring. They contacted Safe Haven and asked for help trying to find good homes for their 5 registered Shih Tzu's, as they were no longer able to provide the amount of care the dogs require. Tiger was one of the group that really needed grooming, and looks like a totally different dog now, as you can see from his before picture. Tiger is a very happy dog that loves everyone he meets! He is getting used to his life inside our foster home, and just loves to chill out on the couch. He also follows us around wherever we go and just waits for us to sit down so he can sit on your lap. He is doing great with his house training and has only been here one week. One of his favorite things to do is to chase his tail....around and around and around in circles, it is so cute! Tiger is used to being around several other dogs and people, so he really would be happiest if he doesn't have to be alone all day long. We are gone all day and have no other inside pets, and I think he would be happier to get a little more attention or even have another dog to play with. If you have been looking for a great little companion that will provide lots of kisses and years of unconditional love, please contact Safe Haven or his foster family with any questions. The foster family email address is: kgb@iowatelecom.net UPDATE: Tiger went on a home visit on March 15th, that lasted 2 weeks. At this home he quickly bonded with his new caregiver and hopeful apdoter, a wonderful single woman. Tiger did seem to bond almost too much, to the point that he became anxious when he wasn't with her and his attachment seemed almost smothering for her. He did exhibit many signs of anxiety when they were separated and just really wanted to be with her all the time. Although he typically did well with his housetraining, when he was anxious about not being with his new caregiver, he did have several accidents in the home. He also can jump/climb baby gates and scratched at her door in order to try and find her if separated. As much as this wonderful lady loved Tiger, he was eventually returned to his original foster home with me where he has another foster dog to play with and several family members to bond with and get attention from. This just seems like a much happier situation for Tiger, and he seldomly exhibits any anxiety at all. In his foster home he does not show separation anxiety to that level at all, and can rest comfortably all on his own when left alone every day for up to 8 hours. I really feel that Tiger would do best in a home that had another dog for him to be with and also several family members so he doesn't become so dependant and attached to just one person. This sort of attachment can be smothering for the potential adopter and just not healthy for Tiger. It was a great learning experience for Tiger and all of us....so now we know a bit more about the type of home Tiger would do best in. If you think your home may be a good fit for Tiger, please contact us!
