Meet Destiney. Isn’t she cute! These pictures don't do her justice! Destiney was found abandoned in the country with her young puppy and saved by Safe Haven in June 2010. She has been in foster care since this time, learning all about the good life of being a house dog. She is likely a beagle/bassett hound mix. Destiney gets along well with other dogs, but hasn’t been around cats much to tell how she would do with them. She’s calm and laid back and not too easily excited most of the time, though she does tend to get a little excited when you first get home if she’s been alone for any length of time, but calms down quickly. She is mostly housebroken; she will have an accident on occasion, but that seems to be when the human in her life fails to let her out timely (she will not seek you out to tell you she needs to go). Initially Destiney was very leary of people that were new to her (including her foster parent) and even more so in relation to men. However, with some attention and time, she’s made friends with those she’s interacted with and she is warming up to new people far faster now than she did right after she was rescued. Destiney is very patient and does well with kids from toddler age on up, she has not been around kids younger than 2, but it's not suspected that there would be a problem. Destiney will jump into and ride in your car, but it is not her favorite thing to do; more times than not she will get sick on a car ride if she has eaten within a few hours of going anywhere (the longer the ride the greater the chance she will get sick). Destiny enjoys a good scratching, she likes to be brushed, and she likes to lay as close to you as she can in bed at night. Destiny’s age is not known, it was guessed to be around 2-3 years old when she was found; after getting to know her and her personality she does tend to have some puppy playfulness in her at times. She is a smart little girl though, she learns quickly and is highly motivated by treats. Destiney is not much for barking most of the time, but she will give you a reminder bark in the morning when she wants to be fed! She weighs between 35 and 40 pounds. She defiantly has the “aww” factor when you look at her and even more after you get to know her.
