Description:

Yogi and his brother Boo Boo came to me as foster dogs, seemingly scared of the world. While Boo Boo seemed to take to a new routine at a new home in stride, Yogi was never quite sure about everything. Some days he would not be willing to leave his kennel to take a walk, some days he would seem happy to get outside, but then freeze up and lay down once he had gone a short distance.

While he began adjusting to his new environment, he made good progress in most ways. He quickly learned to sit for a treat or for supper. He learned to sit down so I would open his kennel and come in to visit with him. His walks, however, didn't seem to make much progress for quite a while. He would generally walk better if his brother Boo Boo was walking with us, but not always. I found no rhyme or reason for his refusal to walk, except he just didn't want to go where I wanted to go.

Generally speaking, Yogi has learned to walk without fear, and seems to enjoy the walks. Once in awhile he will freeze up, and not want to walk, normally when he would rather follow his nose in some other direction.  I have a long leash, and I continue to walk, and he will normally catch up after I take 4 or 5 steps.  ***UPDATE*** Yogi attended our "Walking for all Furs" dog walk in September, and he did excellent. He was excited to meet all the people, and said hi to many dogs. He was very gentle with little kids, he just sat patiently while they were petting him. He even walked great, infact, he was setting the pace for me, instead of me slowing down to wait for him.  A very successful day for him, compared to how he started out.

Yogi seems inquisitive with cats, but not aggressive. I imagine if the cats would run, he would feel obliged to chase them, but normally he is fine around my cats.

Yogi has an outside run, so he can go outside when he wants to. He has never made a mess inside his indoor kennel. While this does not prove he is house trained, it is a good start and demonstrates he likes to keep his "home" clean.

He is also a very sweet dog, as he loves to be around people. He is obviously part lab, as he has the personality to match.
