Description:
Other Pictures of Doc (click to see larger version):Doc was rescued from a puppy mill in Dec 2009. He has been living with his Foster Family since Jan 6 and making great progress to become a fun loving Basset Hound. When Doc arrived at his Foster Home he didn't know how to play with toys, what doggie treats were or why on earth the Wiemeranier and other Basset Hound would want to wrestle with him. Within 3 weeks Doc is leaping around the house with his tail held high and snuggling on the couch with his human mom. He still is not sure of this playtime the other two dogs have going on, but is getting more and more curious as the weeks pass. The house training is going well, believe Doc is really trying to learn but unsure how to signal to his humans that he has to go potty since in the mill he just went in his outside kennel.. Doc is still a bit unsure that it is really OK to come back into the house to be nice and cozy, he does still enjoy time romping around in the Iowa snow. Doc is reluctant to re-enter the house sometimes, he just needs reassurance and guidance that it is OK to go inside. Most defiantly needs to be watched carefully around exits as he will bolt to the outside. Doc's Foster Family feels that when the right, loving home family adopts him, he will continue to learn how to trust humans and be a wonderful 'beefy' companion. Mr. Doc is turning into a wonderful, care-free, laid back and
fun-loving guy. He is doing splendidly in his kennel 7 hours a day
during the week when we are at work and/or school. Doc is free to roam
the rest of the time w/ the other two dogs and the humans that are
fostering him. He has learned how to navigate the steps to get into bed
with his human fosters at night and is quite the warm cuddlier.
Now that the weather has lightened up a bit, he has been on more
walks and has taken rather well to the leash. The funniest thing that
has come up in the last few days is neither basset will go potty
without being on a snow pile and those are melting quickly so they will
have to get over that soon. They seem to be able to find the smallest
patches still :)
The potty training is 95% done and his now comes back into the
house like a bulldozer. He butts the unlatched door right open w/ his
head.
As you can see from the new pictures, Doc has figured out the toys
and what they are for - - that would be to tease the other dogs and lay
on them even though he doesn't feel like chewing on them at the moment.
Doc has also figured out that treats are a wonderful thing and wants to
know where they have been all of his life.
