Safe Haven of Iowa County

Amber was found in August by a caring lady that knew she needed help.  Initially Safe Haven was too full to take her in immediately, but we were able to get an appointment for her at Iowa Humane Alliance in Cedar Rapids to be vaccinated and spayed, and evenutally was able to come into our care.  When Amber was found she had several health concerns including dehydration, upper respiratory infection, lung congestion, and two abscesses on her neck that were draining.  Amber was also suffering with diarrhea, and tested positive for hookworms - so in addition to her antibiotic therapy she also went through several months of a specialized protocol of deworming to rid her of all parasites.

We are so happy to now be able to introduce Amber up for adoption after several months of TLC and medication therapy to get her to this point.  Some cats that come into our care are ready for adoption after a few short weeks, however for Amber her road to recovery and readiness was a bit more long and winding, but oh so worth it!  She is now off medical hold, and has been moved into an adoption room with another feline roommate that she is getting to know.  Amber is currently doing well on a specialized prescription food to continue to help regulate digestive/diarrhea issues that occasionally persist.  A potential adopter should be prepared to continue providing this prescription food that they would get through their veterinarian (>$50 every few months), and in exchange Amber will provide hours of thankful cuddling every day! Currently Amber seems to be thriving and especially loves the attention of humans and is so happy to be accepting visitors and adoption applications now.

Just take a look at all her photos - she is a gorgeous cat with stunning eyes, and her coloring is what is known as Torbie - which is a cat with tabby stipes and tortoiseshell markings.  This is a very interesting and uncommon coloring for cats, so we think Amber is such a special girl now ready to win someone's heart and finally get a safe inside home to call her own!
