Nala is a gorgeous 3.5-4 year old black German Shepherd. She is 80lbs and needs to lose a little weight. This girl is super friendly but a little shy when meeting new people, and can be a little anxious until she settles in and adjusts to her surroundings. She loves to cuddle near people she trusts - and will happily roll over for a belly rub. Nala lived with another dog in her past home and may enjoy a new friend.
Nala did arrive to Safe Haven with a limp, so took her to Frey Pet Hospital for x-rays right away. She was diagnosed with hip dysplasia in her right hip joint, which is a common condition in German Shepherds especially. While there is no "cure," the vet said 80% of dogs with hip displaysia do well with pain management by taking an anti-inflammatory and joint supplement daily, so Nala should continue to live a good quality life with a family that can provide those for her. She will do best in a home where she wouldn't have to tackle many stairs and have dog friends that don't want to play rough - a nice relaxing life without a lot of strenous physical activity, but instead daily walks, would be best for her. Helping her lose a little weight and maintaining a nice "trim figure" will help her hips and quality of life long term!
