Description:Nash was found as a stray in Williamsburg - he was found dragging a long leash, and he spent several days at the local vet office waiting for his family to come claim him. Since they never came for him, the vet office asked Safe Haven to take Nash in and find him a new home. This fella is a tall, athletic dog and would love to go for long walks or jogs every day! He is also an excellent 'fetch partner' and will play as long as you have the stamina to do so.
Nash must have had a few rough days at some point in his life, because he is slow to trust new people - especially men. He is very guarded when men approach, but if they go slow and earn his trust, he comes around.....treats always help too. Nash will need a home where he is the only pet, as he is very reactive to other dogs, and seems a bit too interested in cats. He will need a new family that is dedicated to working with him, preferably with a trainer taking some general dog obedience classes. He is a quick learner, and has mastered the "sit" command, but still has quite a bit to learn including not jumping up on people. Nash does also have issues with resource guarding, which is why a home with no children is needed. If Nash gets wound up, he has trouble redirecting and calming down - so working with a trainer to develop skills to properly handle this situation is important.
Nash did have a home visit with a potential adopter, but had to return to the shelter after a few days. It was reported that Nash was pretty unsettled in the home, perhaps this was even his first time living inside, so he will need some patience while he adjusts. Nash will need lots of dog toys to ensure he has appropriate things to chew on, to deter him from chewing on things he shouldn't. He did tend to get so wound up that he became difficult to handle. He became mouthy and left scratches on the adopters arm, so Nash was returned. While back at Safe Haven, he has not had any incidents of inappropriately using his mouth - but his forever home will need a confident, experienced dog handler to develop a good relationship with Nash and help him transition into his new life.
