Other Pictures of Ella (click to see larger version):Ella and Diego came to Safe Haven from a hoarding situation in Northern Indiana. The rescue group helping with the situation was at capacity and needing help in placing the dogs at a time when we had room to take additional small dogs. The dogs arrived by a small plane piloted by a Pilots N Paws volunteer. Ella has shown herself to be quite independent. She was adopted soon after they arrived in Iowa as was Diego, the male. She was also very protective of her 'mom' and prevented the other canine member of the household from being with 'mom'. That trait, in addition to not liking cats are what briought her back to Safe Haven in November to look for a new home. Bad weather does not frighten her but she is not a fan of snow. She found a new home with a young lady and seemed to be adjusting very well there. After a month in the new home she had seemed to be much more trusting. However, she apparently had not developed the trust for the young man in the household and did snap at him very unexpectedly, breaking skin and causing the couple to decide to bring her back for us to find a new home for her. The AKC website says "The Xoloitzcuintli (show-low-eats-queen-tlee) comes in three sizes: toy, miniature, and standard, and two varieties: hairless and coated. The hairless has tough, smooth, close-fitting skin. The coated variety is covered by a short, flat coat." Interested in adopting Frida?
