Those of us who have adopted rescue dogs all yearn to know their history and what all they have experienced.     Ooohhh, if Mindy could talk!  There must be so much we do not know about her past.  We know that when we took her in she and her brother had been roaming a village in southeastern Iowa for an entire summer and that they were not very trusting of people ….or ready to be caught. The sale of the farm home where they had lived had left Mindy and her brother, Mork, entirely on their own.   The longer they were left without anyone caring for them the more shy they became.   Finally they were live-trapped by some caring ladies and we were contacted to find them a home.

Mindy was adopted by an older gentleman who lived alone and needed company.    He and Mindy developed a wonderful relationship in a very short time, even though the shelter atmosphere had seemed intimidating to her.   Her biggest fault was that she missed him too much and suffered separation anxiety when he stepped outside to  shovel snow or do any little chore.  They became very bonded and spent almost 24/7 together.   Her  ability to socialize with all people has absolutely blossomed during her time with the gentleman…..and the dog that did not want to be touched when she first came to us will roll over onto her back for belly-rubs at the drop of a hat.

Unfortunately after making such a striking adjustment to the hand life dealt her she is facing yet another change.   Her person needed to go to a nursing home and she could not go with him.   So Mindy is looking for someone who can enjoy her 180 degree change in personality and her current need for love and attention from a human.  Persons with deep (or loud) voices may take  a bit longer for her to trust but she does accept them after a little time.    She walks well on a leash and is housebroken.  She still has the wonderfully unusual coarse wire textured outer coat with a softer warmer undercoat (that has turned very curly in the high humidity).
