Description:Betty came to us as a matted, very hungry older Schnauzer who did not appear to have had much care for the last few months. That is the unfortunate part of her story. But, this little gal is a survivor.
After extensive work to get her matted, burr filled, urine soaked coat shaved off and nails trimmed, it was obvious she was very underweight. Four small meals a day to avoid upsetting her digestive system showed that she has a good appetite. We worked at getting her stamina built up, but then found that she had a large bladder stone. During the operation to remove that, it was discovered that her spleen looked as if it was abnormal, possibly from cancer or trauma to it. When the spleen (an unnecessary organ in dogs) was removed and sent in for analysis it was confirmed she had suffered a severe kick or possibly a hit by a car, or something to cause bleeding. This little trooper had healed from that injury while most dogs bleed to death from a spleen injury of this type in a couple of hours.
Special commercially available food to avoid further stones developing and regular urinalysis/Xrays should keep this spunky little gal healthy and happy now that her issues have been resolved.
