Safe Haven of Iowa County

Houey  (Houdini), the Shih Tzu/poodle mix and Mena,the long hair Dachshund, both came to us on 1/23. They were both owner relinquishment, although Mena's people had only had her a short time before they realized that she was determined to boss their little senior Yorkie around a bit more than was tolerable for a little one that deserved a quiet retirement. On their road trip to the vet Mena and Houey got along just fine and she did not try to boss him. Maybe she realized he has a few pounds on her and would not necessarily be a push over - or maybe she just likes some dogs better than others. Houey's people were so sorry to have to give him up, and understandably so. They have a growing family and the living quarters were not satisfactory for the growth of the family AND a dog. Houey got a haircut last Sunday and his little tail curls over his back like a piglet's now. He was timid and scared in this picture the first day with us, but has seemed to decide that all these folks walking him are okay. Houey is ready for adoption and Mena is going in for some dental work next week. Mena shows real potential for being a lap-warmer.
