Safe Haven of Iowa County

Marley was found as a stray, and a kind lady who owns a "doggie lodge" had been keeping Marley until we could take him at Safe Haven.  Here are her reflections.

"Marley is a sweet, loving dog.  He will come to you if you are sitting or get down low to the ground. Not sure why he's afraid.  He has come a long way since I first got him.  He loves to be petted when you are sitting.  He likes to chase anything you throw, ball/frizbee.  He will make a wonderful companion for someone."

Since coming to Safe Haven Marley seems to have gained a little more confidence, but is still leery of strangers, especially some men.  Marley is a very loving dog though and wants attention, there just seems to be something in his past that makes him question everyone he meets.  Marley's rough past seems to have not only been lack of positive socialization, but also a life where he was not housebroken...and he does continue to make his mess in his kennel daily.  We are working really hard at this and some progress has been made, but housetraining in a shelter is a tough trick for anyone to tackle.  Marley really needs to find a family that can work at establishing a routine for Marley with his housebreaking.  

Marley also LOVES several of our other dogs at Safe Haven.....especially some of our smaller dogs!  He just has a very mild demeanor and enjoys playing in our large play yard with lots of canine friends!  

We have also had a rough time getting and keeping much weight on Marley.  He was found pretty thin, and we have had several stool samples analyzed since he does frequetnly have loose stool (but not diarrhea), however we haven't found any real answers - he loves to eat and is NOT a picky eater at all.  He seems to be recently be doing very well on a special prescription Sensitive Stomach food that is a very high calorie food that is easier for him to digest.  We have also added a third feeding into his routine at noon each day, and is finally looking better than ever!  If you feel you may be the forever home Marley is looking for, please contact us today!
