Plott Hound / Mixed (short coat) : : Male : : Young : : Large
While we don't know for sure that Hunter is a Plott Hound, he certainly does look like he could be. His brindle color makes him a bit unusual in the hound world. He certainly sounds like a hound and has ears typical of a scent hound. However, he is sleeker and less blocky looking than most hounds we see.
He was immediately friendly upon meeting Safe Haven volunteers when we visited him at his temporary home where he shared a kennel with two other dogs. In spite of having shared a kennel with other dogs we have learned that he guards his possessions with others. Highly prized items, like rawhides, should not be offered if there are other dogs around. He was relinquished to us because the individuals who had saved him from being abandoned by an acquaintance had several dogs already. Hunter does not do well with young children. Teenagers will probably be acceptable to him but we are convinced that he does not understand small children and should not share a home with them. We have learned that he is very affectionate with adults and makes a loving companion for young adults and older, but experience has shown children are just not a good mix with him. Like all of our pets offered for adoption he is up to date on vaccinations, parasite preventative, and has been microchipped and spayed/neutered. Interested in adopting Hunter?
