Safe Haven of Iowa County

Mikey is a really sweet dog who is missing his people after coming to us through the pound.   We have publicized his presence and waited for a couple of weeks for his people to show up but his family must not know about dogs being held here when they are picked up within the county.   (If he only had a registered microchip we could get him back to his people. )  He is microchipped now and his new family who adopts him will be able to register him.

He seems to know that he likes to be on a couch with a person and he keeps his kennel clean, so we believe he has had a good life in a home with a family.   The vet who brought him up-to-date on vaccines and tested for Heartworm (turned out negative) thinks he is probably around 8 years old.  He came to us already neutered which was another indicator that a loving family was taking good care of him.  

Since we have not been able to find that original family Mikey would really like us to find a family who would appreciate him and the great qualities he learned with his first family.  We have not tried him with other dogs yet, but do know he needs a home without cats.  We are always willing to have an approved adopter bring their current dog in to meet one they are considering adopting.

**UPDATE: Mikey was injured in late March and sadly had to spend a few days at a local ER Vet, and then a week in a foster home so he could get the medical attention he needed to recover.  He is now healthy and ready for adoption -and while at his foster home we learned that he has GREAT house manners.  He has definitely received a lot of TLC during his life and knows that he sure enjoys a good nap on the couch!  We also learned that he should not be in a home with any cats, and would probably be happiest in a home where he is an only dog.  We are focusing all our attention on finding him the home he deserves - so he can be out of the shelter and back on someone's couch!
