Safe Haven of Iowa County

Ricky is a spunky little fella - with a huge personality!  He came to Safe Haven from another shelter in Eastern Iowa...where he had been found as a stray.  He was transferred to Safe Haven in hopes we can find him a forever home, because Ricky needs a special home that can handle his issue of being "Food Aggressive". Unfortunately he will bite anyone that tries to take away his food dish, so we need to make sure we find Ricky a home that can safely manage this behavior.  

The shelter that Ricky came from had a couple different trainers that were working with Ricky, and they felt he was making some progress, but just couldn't help him overcome all his tendencies of wanting to bite anyone that tried messing with his food dish.  So Safe Haven agreed to take in Ricky and find him a home where he can be loved and also handled safely.  

While at Safe Haven Ricky is staying in a foster home that is comfortable working on his food aggression, and his foster mom reports that he is getting along well and making progress with his food aggression issues. However we do feel a home without any small children would be best for Ricky, and also a home where the owners have experience or are willing to learn how to safely live with a dog that has known food aggression.  

Ricky may take a little bit to warm up to new people, and seems to like women a bit more than men. However, he is so motivated by treats, that we feel he will quickly makes friends with anyone that has treats to share and are willing to give him a little time to get comfortable with them.
