Volunteering for Safe Haven:
Do you love animals? We would love to have you!
We are always looking for responsible, dedicated and compassionate people to assist us in providing the highest level of care to the animals in our shelter. We strive to work together in a safe environment as a family at Safe Haven to help all of our friends with paws.
We have two shifts each day, seven days a week. If you want to learn more, take a look some of the Volunteer Opportunities at Safe Haven and please fill out this volunteer application. Upon receipt of your application, we will contact you to set up an orientation time. Safe Haven has policies in place to protect our animals and to create a safe environment for our volunteers.
Volunteer Age Requirements:
All volunteers are required to attend an orientation prior to volunteering.
For safety reasons, volunteers can start on cat side at 10 years of age and must be supervised by a seasoned volunteer or parent/legal guardian until competent in cat care. Adolescents must have a guardian's written consent.
Similarly, we require that adolescents be at least 14 to work with dogs and must have a guardian's written consent.
Fostering for Safe Haven:
Currently our location is so easy for potential adopters to visit that we are reluctant to relocate any animals to foster care unless there is a special need of some kind that we are not able to meet in the shelter setting. If an animal is in a foster home, it is much less likely to be seen by those interested in choosing a cat or a dog to adopt.
Safe Haven is always interested in meeting with people who might want to open their homes to animals with special needs by becoming foster caregivers. Foster caregivers may be needed to provide specialized care and socialization to animals at some time in the future for a variety of reasons.
If you think you would be interested in becoming a foster care provider, please fill out our online foster application (link below) and let's explore the possibilities of how you can best put your talents as a dedicated animal lover to use for lost, abandoned and unwanted pets in Iowa County.
